Lingerie! What to get and where to buy in Perth…

So you are thinking about booking a boudoir session with me? Or maybe you just want to go spoil yourself with some new lingerie? Awesome! There is NOTHING better than putting on some lingerie to help you feel amazing however it is important to get the right lingerie for you. We are all so so different when it comes to body shape and sizes so it’s important that we get lingerie that is best for our body shape and individual needs.

For those who are booked in, at our pre consultation or planning session which are included in every session, we try on items from our clients closet and discuss any concerns you have. This is the best way to guide you on what will work best for you and your body type. To me this step is a great way to break the ice and make you feel comfortable and also give you the confidence to know what works well for your body. I am no lingerie expert if there is such a thing, BUT I have helped fit hundreds of women so I know what works.

If you aren’t coming for a session or you are getting something special for yourself then where possible get into the store and get fitted by a professional. This can really take a piece from looking nice to really adding that wow factor for you.

Not only is it important to have lingerie that fits well, it is important to get something that is flattering for our body type. Our most common concern with ladies is Mum Tums. Let’s face it 90% of us who have had babies has either a little pouch or excess skin. A lot of our clients have also had large amounts of weight loss so we totally get it. Remember that with our sessions we pose you the best and most flattering way so it’s not a real issue however having the correct lingerie on top of that will take it to a whole new level of amazing.

Common mistakes people make with lingerie -

Too small - lingerie will cut into you and give you lumps and bumps even if you don’t have them! The only time this can be an exception in my sessions is for those ladies who bulge a little out of their lingerie. Hey! We can work with that for photos ;)

Too big - you will look bigger than you are and it won’t flatter your body’s natural shape. We want to show that off!

Other Tips

Small or Sagging Breasts - For those with smaller breasts or breasts that don’t quite sit where they used to (I feel ya ;)) I always recommend a good quality pushup bra. Like most things in life, quality really is the key here. If you go into a specialty store not only will you get fitted correctly, the bra will be the most supportive and they generally last much longer than the cheaper options. Always be sure to ask for the pushup versions too. Not always, but sometimes some shop assistants may guide you only with what they have in store in your size. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want because they can sometimes get it from other stores for you.

Bigger Breasts - I always recommend a half cup over a full cup as it’s nice to see some cleavage and if it fits well then you won’t be overflowing which is a common concern. Big full cups can sometimes give more of a ‘granny’ look. Not always but they can do so I say it is best to avoid those. We are looking for sexy so probably isn’t something you would wear everyday so keep those for your everyday wear.

Mum Tums - For those who are worried about their tummies then I recommend a body suit or high waisted underwear. Our bustiers are super popular too and most clients end up using them as one of their options. Bustiers generally give you the support of a good bra but are longer so hold any areas in that we may be worried about. The ones we have are also a corset set up so we can pull it in in the areas that we need to, and let it out where needed.

Stockings - I always tell ladies when they are looking at stockings to wear with garter belts or suspenders to go for a size larger than the packet says. Unless you have tiny thin legs, I usually find that a size up fits much better. I prefer the over the knee, thigh high stockings that are held up by the suspenders and avoid the stay ups. This is because sizing wise more clients have trouble sizing the stay up stockings compared to the hold up suspenders. Because you cannot try them on it’s always a safer bet unless of course you wear them regularly and know exactly what you need but if that were the case you probably wouldn’t be reading this ;)

Who Do I recommend for Lingerie locally?

Obviously this can change regularly as different and new ranges come to the stores. I will sometimes share my new favourites in our Facebook group so be sure to join that and follow along.

For local Perth ladies Honey Birdette are my go to for ladies up to around a size 16 with their biggest size being a 16F. They don’t always have these sizes in store but they can sometimes get them in or you can purchase online if you have been in and tried some on in store. You can even book an appointment with them to have a fitting. We also usually recommend them as a first port of call for those who are having the bondage set added to their session as they nail that risqué’ genre so beautifully. BUT they don’t always have the best options for those with excess skin so each client is very different.

Bras and Things have a growing range of beautiful items and generally you can find some bigger sizes now right through to an 18E or so for their more sexier items anyway. Most clients who come in have at least one piece from them as they have many shop fronts so they are easy to find.

City Chic - Although I find it really disappointing that they don’t carry their full range of lingerie in store, you can go in store to get an idea on your size and order the sexier styles online. They really do that curvy womanly shape so well. They start at a size 12 for some pieces and a size 14 for others and go right through to a size 22/24. We have many of their lingerie items in our clients closet and they are some of our most popular and most used items. Their 14C/D items are our most common size which usually fits out size 12C/D - 14C/D clients.

Myer and David Jones carry a decent range of lingerie although I do find it can be a little hit and miss with what they have in stock. They are usually excellent for fittings with lots of experience and are usually a great option for my older ladies who like a little more conservative look.

Online

For those who tend to fit the ‘Barbie Doll mould’ you will find that you can get away with online shopping for the most part. But for those wanting flattering, well supporting lingerie I would always shop in store over online. We do have some options in our Clients Closet from online supplier such as Shein however they are always hit and miss with sizing and support. Their lace Teddys etc can be fun, some will be great to show off your back/booty but for those wanting more support or underwire etc, I would recommend an in store option to try on 10 times out of 10 over this.

So that is my take on buying lingerie! In a nut shell anyway. Again I am no expert just learn from experience and helping women over the years.
