Too sexy for social media: privacy and boudoir sessions
As a photographer offering boudoir photography, I am often asked whether clients' photos will be shared on social media.
The answer is a definite "no" unless the client explicitly consents to it. It is important to note that, as a photographer, I retain the rights to the photographs taken during the session. This is standard practice in the industry and is in place to protect my business and ensure that clients do not use the images for commercial purposes without permission. So in our standard contract, this is covered.
But I do understand that boudoir photography is a very personal and intimate experience, which can make clients feel vulnerable. Many are Mum’s who are worried about their kids seeing, some are businesswomen in high positions who don’t want the chance of their employees seeing, and some work in the education department that has strict rules. Whatever the reason is, I understand so I take my clients' privacy very seriously and will never share any images without prior consent. Some clients choose not to share their images at all or only share images where their faces are not visible, for reasons of privacy or work-related concerns.
Can you change your mind after your session about consent? Yes, if you decide that after you come for your session you are happy to then give permission that is perfectly fine too.
So whilst I would love to be able to share all my clients' images, I only do so with explicit consent. And to ensure that I have new faces to share on social media and my website, I occasionally hold boudie calls throughout the year designed specifically for this purpose. For those who know that they will be happy for me to share before they come in so are offered a discount to do so. You can find those sessions in Special Events when they are available.
So rest assured, your privacy is of utmost importance to me, and I will never share any images without your consent.
